小赤沢側3合目から苗場山

秋山郷の小赤沢から1車線の道路を登った終点にある3合目駐車場から苗場山頂上に日帰り。秋山郷までが遠いので、3合目駐車場に車を止めて車中で前泊して登り、昼前には駐車場に戻って来られた。「のよさの里」の温泉で汗を流して、新潟市までゆっくり帰宅。

まず斜面に取りつき、小さな尾根にとりつき、それを登っていくと、幅の広い谷の凸部を緩やかに登っていく感じになる。それが尽きると、右斜め上に、かなり急な斜面を登っていく。それを登りきると、苗場山頂上域の緩斜面の湿原に飛び出す。湿原のすぐ先、樹木や灌木の中を越え、赤湯からの赤倉山経由の道を合わせる手前から再び湿原。更に緩やかに登り、左に山頂ヒュッテを見ながら進むと、遊仙閣の裏に苗場山頂。遊仙閣の周囲は、この小屋の廃物が置かれるなど、やや見苦しく、そこが山頂とは幻滅。それでもなお、まだ残雪のある苗場山頂域の湿原は美しい。

小赤沢側3合目駐車場の入り口付近にトイレ有り。ハエが多く、十分にきれいとは感じにくいが、男子トイレ側に車椅子用の洋式トイレも付帯。もっとも、そこへの入り口には段差があるなど、実際に車いすでそこに到達するのは困難。駐車場から少しだけ舗装して車椅子の人が実際に使えるようにするようにして欲しい。その先には進めない車椅子の人がどれだけ来るかは不明ながら。

水場は、駐車場を出て登っていった後、小さな尾根にとりついてすぐ右にある。幅の広い谷の凸部から右斜め上にかなり急な斜面を登っていったところにもある。

この時期はまだ残雪もあるので、柔らかい靴は滑りやすい。ビブラム等の堅いそこの靴が望ましい。

なお、「のよさの里」側への道路の途中に、2箇所連続する形で、山側から流れ落ちる水を徒渉する箇所があり、水を流す部分との間にかなり急な段差がある。2つのうち1箇所は水があったので徐行したが、もう1箇所は、水が無かったとともに暗くなっていたこともあって段差に落ちて車の腹を強く打ってしまった。段差の標識もないので要注意。

A day return trip from a car park located at the Third Station, which can be reached from Ko-Akazawa in the Akiyama-go by a narrow and winding paved road. Because the Akiyama-go is far, I had arrived at the car park to stay a night in my car. By doing so, I could come back to the car park before noon. On my way home to Niigata City, I enjoyed the hot spring at Noyosa no Sato (web site in Japanese only).

Soon after starting from the car park, the trail soon goes on a small ridge. After the ridge, it goes on the bottom of a broad valley with gradual ascent. At the end of this gradual ascent, the trail turns to the right to traverse the steep slope with rather a hard ascent. After this hard work, the trail arrives at the edge of the gentle slope of the summit area of Mt. Naeba. After passing a swamp area, it passes woods and shrubs to come to the much larger swamp area of the summit area. It first meets the trail from Aka-yu, Gunma Prefecture, via Akakura Yama (older and less used trail from Aka-yu). As the trail goes up, it will see Sancho Hutte. As it further goes on, it will see Yusen-kaku on its left. Behind this cottage is the summit of Mt. Naeba. This summit is disappointing because it is too close to the hut and also because the area is not clean with some ugly waste construction materials and other left behind. But still the summit area with some snow is beautiful and worth a visit.

There is a public rest room near the entrance to the car park. However, we may be bothered by flies. They may not be clean. There is one room for handicapped persons but access from the car park to it may not be easy becasue of the gap on the grqund before it.

Water is available on our right as we ascend and soon after reaching a small ridge. Also as we ascend on the steep slope after a shallow valley or rather a concave, there is water.

The shoe soles should be hard because we should expect hard snow on the path.

There are gaps on the road surface as fords over the water falling down on the way to Noyosa no Sato. There are now sings of fords. Especially in the dark, we must be careful.
